What Does My Ultrasound Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Aug 2015
Question: I have a Uterus measuring 14.3x6.6x5.4cm They found 2 tiny myometrial calcifications, also a solitary intramural/ subserosal uterine fibroid measuring 24x19x14mm My endometrial thickness measures 12mm. My endometrial polyp has disappeared since last endovaginal scanning. I am waiting to hear what the OB/GYN wants to do, but would like more info myself before hand. Should I be concerned about the size of Uterus and thickness of endometrial , and also the 2 calcifications ? What course of action should i expect to hear from the OB/GYN? Can any course of action wait a few months to see if it works itself out or am i at risk for something more serious?

Brief Answer:
Need more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your ultrasound report and understand your concerns.
In your report uterus is bulky and it is showing thickened endometrium and fibroid.
Calcification is not a cause of concern and can be due to fibroid ( calcified).
In my opinion her next step is hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy but before giving my opinion I want to ask a few questions.
Are you suffering from heavy bleeding during menstruation?
Any other associated symptoms?
Are your period regular or you are in perimenopausal stage?
Why you have done ultrasound scan?
Taking any medications and suffering from any disease?
Please revert back to me with my answers.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Good luck.
Regards

Thank you Dr, for replying so fast.
The beginning of the year I was very late having my period (just out of the blue) something like 17 days late, when I finally had it , it wasn't normal, it took forever to start coming out at a normal amount, and I had NO CRAMPS...which i found very odd, since i have always had moderate to severe cramping. This period lasted very long from start to finish. Feb, March were the same, and I decided to get this checked out. My Dr did a pap test, and could see a fluid leaking form my cervix, but was not bloody. My test came back normal though, and he even sent it to the cancer institute to check and it came back negative. He sent me for my first endovaginal scanning which showed the small Fibroid measuring 16x11x18mm, and at that time my Uterus measured 11.4x5.3x5.5cm with endometrium 11mm. They also found the endometrium Polyp measuring 14x6x7mm . This was MArch 10th 2015. My GYN, wanted to do a D and C and remove Polyp, my surgery was supposed to be August 21st. ( But I canceled this appointment , to try and make it for a later date) I have yet to hear back.
April , was the same type of bleeding , late, with no cramps, slow onset, lasting long . May and XXXXXXX things started changing. I started Bleeding VERY heavy, lasting for 18 days having to use 2 feminine pads, changing every 20 - 30 minutes. When this period ended , it ended , no lingering on with trace amounts . July was 5 days late roughly and I was back to having cramps, and everything seemed back to normal. I am waiting to start this months. I went for my second Endovaginal scanning, and it showed what I wrote in the first post. So the Polyp fixed itself, Uterus is a bit larger, and endometrium is now 12mm . I am suspecting I am starting Perimenopausal stage( I have been plucking whiskers on my chin, and nipples for last couple years), and things will start getting different. I just want to make sure no Cancer. My father died when he was 28 from lung Cancer, that had started in his leg.
I have slightly high bp and take medications to keep it down, my Cholesterol used to be high and was put on medications for that as well. I take Paxil for anxiety. My allergies, I have medication for, but i don't take it regular, only when i feel i need it. I do not drink alcohol or take any type of illegal drugs. I do smoke cigarettes though, about 12 a day. I have also gained weight in the past year, which i feel is part of the problem.
Hope this helps you .
Thank you again for answering me, and helping me understand everything. I really don't want to go under anesthesia if i can help it. I am wondering if it is safe to wait and see if things change or is the risk too high? What all is involved with the hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy procedures?
Thanks again , Jodyne

Brief Answer:
Hysteroscopy and biopsy advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
You are most welcome.
Sorry for the delay.
Thanks for giving me such a detailed description.
Here are my advice about your symptoms -
- I would suggest you to get your hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy test done to rule out any other pathology like endometrial cancer.
It is a simple procedure and can be done in routine as an office procedure at your gynecologist clinic.
- Your symptoms can be due to hormonal changes also because during perimenopausal changes estrogen levels are high and cause your symptoms.
- Though heavy bleeding and increased endometrial thickness and bulky uterus can occur due to fibroid, your age is not favorable to fibroid development. In my opinion it is better not to wait and go ahead with hysteroscopy and biospy if necessary.
- Quit smoking because you are already a patient of high blood pressure and allergy, it will increase your problem.

Hope I have answered all your questions, if you have further questions I am happy to aid you.
Good luck.
Regards

I just wanted to add, and get your thoughts of the following:

It was my 11th birthday when I had my first period, is it possible I will start Menopause earlier since I was so young to start? I was thinking there can only be so many eggs in a women's ovaries. I also had 2 kids, girl 23, and boy 19 .

Is the hair on my chin and nipples part of Peri ? I started getting a type of acne that is blister like on my neck and face... they scar, and can be painful to try and pop, but take forever to heal. (closer to my periods) Along with no energy, and joint pain. I also have to stay away from salt, or I swell up like crazy especially closer to my period.

Please let me know if the above is part of Peri, along with other symptoms I should look forward to ...hahaha Thanks again , I could hug you for all the info, you have made me feel at ease. I will update you on what my GYN decides with the outcome and results.

Brief Answer:
Yes,it can be due to perimenopause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am,
I feel very sorry about delay in my response.
I have gone through your symptoms and most likely your symptoms can be due to hormonal changes cause by perimenopausal.
But as we discuss I would suggest to go for hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy.
As you had polyp and now it is not showing in your ultrasound it means it is flushed out during your menstruation and that was the reason of heavy bleeding in your two menstrual cycle.
Thanks for such a nice word and I am waiting for your future reports and pray everything will be fine.
So again sorry for delay and hope to hear from you soon.
Good luck.
