Question : I recently had an ultrsound for an enlarged uterus. I am 63 yo. Post menopausal. Husband impotent (MS) for 13 years. Menopause began in my 50's. Menses started at 16. No real problems with memopause. Some hot flashes (brought on with stress and caffeine). No bleeding. Mother had breast cancer and I think endometriosis whereby had a hysterectomy. Don't know alot about if there was other female cancer. Died at 66

The report said:
Uerus measures 6.4 cm x3.7 c, x 4.7cm and is normal in configuration and echogemcity. The endometrium is heterogeneous and measures 1.7 cm thickness. Neither ovary is identified. A solid hypoechoic solid right adnexal mass measures 8.2cm x 7.6 cm x 8.9 cm and raises concerm for endometrioma. Complex nabothian cysts on cervix. HPV positive Normal pap.

So as you can imagine I am hysterical with worry. I see an OB/GYN this week for review of my ultrasound results. Advice? Thoughts? Thank you so much, Patti

Brief Answer:
Need proper evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Endometrium is thickened more than normal range. It is called hyperplasia and most often occurs after menopause due to absence of ovulation and low level of progesterone. I suggest to undergo endometrial biopsy or histopathological examination to rule out carcinomatous changes (if any).

2) According to scan report, there is large solid right adnexal mass, which is related with endometriosis. Laparoscopic surgical excision is the best treatment.

3) Most of the nabothian cysts are clinically insignificant. However, I suggest you to undergo excision biopsy to rule out mucus producing neoplasia. Do Pap smear test at periodic interval and you should undergo one Colposcopic examination for evaluation of cervical health as you are HPV positive.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.
