Brief Answer: Reports are within normal limit. Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Sir First and foremost let me reassure you that there is no cause for concern. Let's analyse your report 1. Fasting blood sugar is 101. Ideally it should be less than 110 2. Glycosylated Hemoglobin ( HbA1C ) should be less than 6gm%. . Your value is 5.2 3. Urine examination report; it's a quantitative test and the values are within normal limits. Proteins should be less than 50 and glucose less than 11. so there is absolutely no cause of concern going by the value of your laboratory reports. Take care Best Regards Dr T Shobha Deepak MBBS, MD

Thank you for your response. So on the 9.9 mg glucose on the urine test being under 11. Does going over 11 put me in a pre-diabetic range. I thought it was unusual to have glucose in urine. The night before this test I did have a very high sugar desert - could this affect urinalysis test?

Brief Answer: It's not prediabetic Detailed Answer: Hi There is a renal threshold for glucose. If the blood sugar level is below 165 mg % sugar is not seen in urine. When an individual does fasting blood sugar, the urine is overnight urine normally ( your blood sugar would have been definitely above 16k5 which has caused sugar being present in urine). Diagnosis of prediabetic or diabetes is based solely on Fasting and post prandial blood sugar levels. Urine sugar is deceiving level of 9.9 is likely to be due to renal glycosuria when the level of sugar exceeds 165 following intake of high calories food even if the elevation is for some time. This does not put you in diabetic range. Even if renal glycosuria occurs the value is never above 11. Blood sugar level between 110 to 125 is prediabetic Fasting blood sugar level above 126 is diabetic post prandial blood sugar level above 200 is diabetic post prandial blood sugar levels between 180 to 200 is prediabetic I hope your query is resolved take care Best Regards Dr T Shobha Deepak

Ok, so I believe you are telling me that the blood sugar spiked due to the high calorie food and went into urine. The fact that the fasting bg was 101 and ha1c was 5.2 in indicator that there should be no concern. If I was to repeat urinalysis without high calorie consumption night before I should expect lower glucose or no glucose in urine? Thanks again

Brief Answer: You have rightly interpreted Detailed Answer: Hi you have rightly interpreted it. If you collect 2nd urine sample after overnight fasting(discarding overnight urine sample) and if the Urine examination is repeated, it will not show Glucose. Rest Be assured.
