Question : I recently had a chest x-ray and the findings include "asymmetric elevation of the posterior right
hemidiaphragm...with chronic basilar interstitial markings"...there is mild cardiomegaly...unfolded
aorta".
"Increasing size of the cardiac silhouette...considerations would include increasing cardiomegaly
versus pericardial effusion".
The provider refused to give me any information over the phone and insists on my coming in for
an appointment to discuss the x-ray. Thank you for your help.

The X ray findings show
1.the raised diaphragm. The diaphragm is a muscle lying between the chest and the abdomen and is a chief muscle of breathing. There is something pushing it into the thorax or chest. Alternatively, something may be pulling it to the chest. Looking at the full report, I suspect the latter.
2. Chronic basilar interstitial findings. To understand that you have to consider the terms. Interstitium is the gap between blood vessels and breathing units of the lungs. The space is obliterated, suggesting that the patient may have some respiratory condition like bronchitis or asthma. Alternatively, heart disease like failure need to be taken in to consideration.
3. Mild cardiomegaly and unfolding of aorta maybe age related.
4. Increasing heart shadow means that the shadow of heart on X ray is increased compared to a prior X ray. There could be fluid around the heart causing this.
That's what the X ray means.
