Question : Hi, Dr. Chail:

A Ct scan of the left humorous bone reads:

"Within the proximal humeral metadiaphysis medullary cavity there is a 3.0 cm ovoid density which demonstrates similar attenuation to the adjacent skeletal muscle. There is no endosteal scalloping or periosteal reaction associated with this finding. No additional bone lesion is seen. No cortical thickening is appreciated. IMPRESSION: Nonaggressive appearance of a nonspecific 3.0 cm lesion within the proximal left humeral metadiaphysis. Contrast-enhanced MRI is suggested for further characterization.

Question:
What does nonaggressive mean?
What does this all this mean in general?
It is possible cancer?
MRI is very expensive, so trying to get an idea of what this could be.

Thanks for writing in to us.

1. The word non aggressive is used for a condition that is likely benign and slowly or non progressive.
2. There is a 30 mm lesion in the upper part of the humerus bone and is not showing any of the features of cancer.
3. It is not a likely cancer.
4. A biopsy test might help to confirm the lesion. You can discuss a biopsy and then decide on treatment as needed.
