What Does Odd Pain In The Lower And Middle Back Area Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: hello - I have an odd pain in my lower to middle left back, I do not believe it is muscular, and have had some intestinal discomfort lately. This wakes me up from sleep around 4am the past 3 nights. It seems to be worse when lying down. I went scuba diving about a week ago - don't think that's related but...I am wondering what internal organs are in that area..
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Hello. A kidney stone can cause pain in that area

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX I agree this isn't related to the diving. A kidney stone classically produces pain in one flank, although the pain can radiate around to the lower abdomen and into the groin area.

I suggest you see a doctor for an exam, urinalysis, and a ct scan of the abdomen and pelvis to check this out. Most stones pass on their own in a few days.
