Question : a very small part of my big toe became numb a long time ago (like 20 years). I had mentioned it to my doctor and he said it was nothing, might come back to normal, but it never did. Now, it feels like a larger area is numb. Is there anything I should be doing? I'm wearing comfortable shoes and I'm active.

Brief Answer:
Pinched/compressed nerve very likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Numbness of big toe and surrounding area that is progressing may indicate pinched/compressed nerve.

The nerve may be pinched/compressed anywhere from its exit from spinal cord (degenerative spine disease, herniated disc), and during its pathway in leg (tunnel syndromes).

It is necessary to get evaluated by a Neurologist clinically and , likely by tests such nerve conduction study, imaging, in order to understand better your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further further.

Greetings.
