What Does Presence Of Blood After Bowel Movement Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 Jun 2015
Question: Last Sunday I found red blood in the toilet after defecating. I was highly disturbed. Four hours later there was some blood but much less. Come Monday I had a spot on my briefs then it stopped. I had thought a hemorrhoid had broken. There is some non painful spasming in the vincinity of my rectum. I am a daily drinker of bourbon so I quit. No more bleeding but a feeling of something in my rectal area. I am worried but it will take some time to get signed up with a doctor. I didn't want to go to the emergency room due to cost.

Brief Answer:
Can be internal hemorrhoids.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. You problem can be most likely due to internal hemorrhoids. In heavy drinkers when they have liver problems this can occur also.

It is better to have a digital examination by general surgeon to rule out this. Proctoscopy is done to confirm it also. If your bleeding is stopped then no need to go ER. You can get a consultation with a general surgeon. As your bleeding has stopped no need to worry.

Taking fibre rich food will be helpful. You can take stool softeners if you have straining while defeacation. I would recommend stool softeners like softovac Sf which is not habit forming. It is also advised to take more water.

Liver function tests should be assessed and if there is any increase in liver enzymes ultrasound examination of liver should be done also.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
