What Does Presence Of Blood In Urine Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: I had submitted a question regarding the fact that I had A LOT of blood in my urine one time. Everyone says it can't be kidney stones because I did not experience any pain. However, I met a lady who said she one had a "kidney stone granule" that caused no pain, but did cause her to have a significant amount of blood in her urine, just one time. Could that possibly be what happened to me? I have a CT scan of my kidneys scheduled. I am afraid of the possibility of cancer, so was just wondering if it could have been a "granule" or something like a kidney stone.

Brief Answer:
It can be kidney stone and it is too early to suggest any grave pathology

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had gone through.

Based on the history you have shared, yes I can understand your fears. But you need to stay relaxed as having blood in urine and that too at one occasion is too early and less likely to be something graver as you have mentioned or feared to be the case.

Yes it can be due to kidney stones or even due to urinary tract infection and it may present without pain as usually pains occur only when stones blocks the urine outflow like in urethra or ureters or when it erodes the sorrounding structures significantly. Mild trauma inside urinary tract due to these stones may lead to blood in urine but no pain.

You need to drink a lot of water and stay relaxed till the CT scan report arrives. Hope that will resolve most of your concerns and will help your physician to diagnose the exact cause.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
