Brief Answer:
No it is not a serious condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Presence of coccobacilli in Pap smear are suggestive of bacterial vaginosis.( correlate with symptoms like vaginal discharge, odour etc.)
Usually bacterial vaginosis resolve without treatment.( that is the reason your doctor did not suggest any medication)
Because normal vaginal flora replace the pathogenic flora with time.
But in some cases bacterial vaginosis required treatment with antibiotic.
Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

Thank you for writing back.

It was indeed helpful. Is there any specific reason for this infection.
Do you suggest any medication for this?

However in past i had never faced any issues of excessive discharge / odour or anything.
Is there any preventive measure for this?

Thanks,
Anu
