Question : Hi, I have a small pea size lump on my anus which is blue in colour and shiny. Sometimes it's itchy and other times sore. It's been there for at least 3 weeks and has never really changed much in size. There's no blood. It feels like if it burst I would be pain free.

Brief Answer:
Thrombosed hemorrhoid vein

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I looked into the picture and it is thrombosed hemorrhoid vein. Whenever there is thrombosis of hemorrhoids it cause pain and itchiness. The factors that increase the pain are hard stool, dehydration.

You can apply over the counter preparations which has Beclomethasone and lignocaine. While beclomethasone will reduce the swelling the lignocaine can act as local anesthetic which reduces the itching. As these are prescription drugs, you will need a doctors prescription for that. Your local pharmacist can know the brand if you ask him about a cream with both these preparations. You can apply it four to five times a day. Once the itching subside you can go twice a day for a week.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I am somewhat relieved it isn't something more sinister.
Would you ultimately recommend a visit to the doctor to get a prescription for available cream ?
