Question : Hi I had an abdominal US to look at something unrelated to my kidneys but the radiologist found a small (6mm x 8mm) hyperechoic area with no focal shadowing that he said could be fat, calcification or other etiology. This was in the report but not listed out in the "findings" portion. I am 37, thin, vegetarian, exercise 6x a week. My doc said not to worry about it because the radiologist did not put it in his findings. I cannot get it out of my mind, though! What could this be? By the way, I have no symptoms of kidney problems and my doc ran a urinalysis and blood work to ease my mind and it was all normal. Thank you!

kidneys are made of several blood vessels and filters a lot of blood daily . it responds to daily wear and tear and has several changes in its structure and functions. some times a small structural changes can be congenital ( present since birth) and has no clinical significance. a fat is a conglomeration of fat globules together and can be a structural minor variation rather than a defect. cdlfication can be due to wear and tear which is non specific. usually these can be made out better on CT scans snd you can undergo that test only if you are too worried about it. human body has several such variations ( not defects) when you start searching in and out. that's why no two people are similar on the earth. I think you shouldn't worry and still you can monitor once a year gif any change in the structure or size of the lesion seen
