Question : Hi mam we took antenatal scan. The report is" placenta is posterior & about 3.6 cms from the internal is with grade I maturity. Cervix length measures 3.9 cms. Internal Is is closed". Doctor told placenta should be 7 cms from internal os . but the doctor who took scan told that its in normal position. I am confused. Is it normal?
Brief Answer:
It is normal, dont worry.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
I understand your confusion, please let me clarify.
Placenta within 20 mm, that is, 2 cm distance of the internal os, is considered low lying placenta, and has associated risks.
Any distance greater than that is normal.
Majority of placenta are situated in upper segment of uterus, that is around 5 - 7 cm away from os.
And some are normally situated in midcavity, as in your case.
3.6 cm away from os means NORMAL.
It is not low lying or placenta previa.
There is no reason to worry about it any more, and am glad for that.
Hope this reasssures you.
Take care.
It is normal, dont worry.
