Question: My mom had a surgery in Senegal -West XXXXXXX - but she is having trouble swallow anything. The initial diagnosis is hydrocephalus. So a shunt was inserted. she has not been able to swallow before the procedure and this has not changed noticeable after the procedure.
She is only taking about 50ml of fluids a day orally. She keeps anything given orally in her mouth for up to an hour. Wanted to see if there are other options you can recommend since she cannot travel to the states right now

CT Scan

Results of the ct scan
The extremity of the tube is well placed on the front of the intersection of the left ventricle. absence of anomaly of the density from parachyme of the brain.
Lack of expansive process or density of abnormal cerebral parenchyma
No build of cerebral palsy.
No abnormality of the posterior arteries

Conclusion
tube is in place and there is no sign of compilcation
no sign of complication. the physical aspects of the
ventricular system has no change compared to the previous exam prior to the procedure.

Brief Answer:
Shunting hardware needs to be evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Regarding to CT scan results after the shunting of the hydrocephalus, it states that the physical aspects of ventricles didn't change ( or they measure the same ) so, in one way or another, the shunting hardware isn't working properly.

It could be the valve that may be of high pressure one, or shunting hardware is blocked at some point.

If the valve is a programmable one, in my opinion, it is necessary to lower the pressure threshold.

Evaluation of shunting by a Neurosurgeon is necessary also.

If shunting is working properly, and hydrocephalus will be improved, other conditions such neurological degerative diseases should be considered and evaluated further by a Neurologist.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
