Question: Dear Doctor,
I got my father aged 78 years tested for Lever Function Test as he is having problem in his apatite and is very weak and bedridden currently. He was under medication for cough with antibiotics, which he has stopped now and cough is cured. He has history of chronic hypertension & Swas (mild Asthama) for which he takes regular medicines. We got him checked for chest X ray and everything found ok. BP is normal at 140/80 at his age.
His LFT results are:
Bilirubin total 1.10, Direct Bilirubin 0.70, Indirect Bilirubin 0.40, Total Protein 6.80, Albumin 3.90, Globulin 2.90, A/G Ratio 1.34, SGOT 31.00, SGPT 45.00, Alkalaine Phosphatase 120.00
Currently he is taking very less diet and all liquid. We arranged to give him Glucose through Drips 3 days back.
Pls interpret his LFT results and suggest how can we go for further treatment if any so that he can be normal.

Thanks & Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
LFT appears normal

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXX,
As for the LFT report you have given to me it appears normal.
Question is why has his apetite gone down recently and also why is he bedridden.
Suggest you to see a good physician and work out the reasons for that as just hypertension should not give rise to these conditions.
As for his diet presently continue diet advised by physician but once he takes a normal diet please include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.
Take care

Dear Doctor XXXXXXX
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Sir, what sort of diets should be given currently as he is in no mood to eat anything. Whatever he puts in his mouth gives no taste so he has avoided all fried and tasty things and just says us to give him only dal water, daliya and cornflakes in 2-3 spoons amount only.
We are very worried for his conditions, pls suggest.
We were worried that due to direct Bilirubin on higher side might be his lever has some infection, but as per your reply after seeing LFT we are somewhat relived.

Thanks & Regards,

Brief Answer:
Simple tasty food

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr XXXX,
Give him a diet low in fats and spices.(low oil )
Give him lots of palak with dal, fruit juices.
Give him protein powder such as Ensure, 3 tablespoons 3 times per day. This can be given with milk or just added to your dal etc.
Basically see what he likes to eat and provide that.
Take care
