Question : Doctor,
I have tested my LFT today I used to drink earlier but it is very very rare for last 1+ years.
My LFT blood test results are normal but I am worried about my AST:ALT ratio

My AST is 16 while my ALT is 31 ( both of them are with in the normal range). the AST ALT ratio is less than 1. is that something i need to be worried ?

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry as all printed reports are normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query, read and understood your concerns, seen the report.

If you please note the printed reports there is column of A/G Ration but not of AST/ALT ratio.

Another point: Most causes of liver cell injury are associated with an AST that is lower than the ALT. An AST to ALT ratio of 2:1 or greater is suggestive of alcoholic liver disease, ''particularly in the setting of an elevated gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT).'' Your GGT is absolutely normal as are all other parameters.

Hence there is nothing to worry about.
The ratio is important only if there is a liver disease.

Since you have left drinking and the reports are normal, have healthy food, low fat, no drinks again and there will be no problem.

(I was just wondering how could you come to know about the AST/ALT ratio as this is not mentioned in the report)
I hope this answer helps you. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.
