MRI examination of the Lumbar spine

Technique:-
•     . Sagittal T1, T2 W images (plate 1,2)
•     . Axial T2 W images ( plate 3)

Findings
•      Preserved Lumbar Lordosis.
•      Good vertebral alignment.
•      Normal dimensions of the bony lumber spine canal.
•      Diminished bright T2 signal of the lumbar inter-vertebral discs denoting their degenerations
With
•     preserved their heights
•     L4-5 mild diffuse posterior disc bulge touching the ventral aspect of the thecal sac and partially encroaching upon both neural exit foramina, more at right.
•      Small marginal anterolateral osteophytosis of the lumber vertebral end plates.
•      L1 small vertebral body osseous hemangioma.
•      Modic type II degenerative marrow changes at L2-3 & L3-4 levels.
•      Normal appearance of the conus-medullaris and cauda nerve root.
•      No para vertebral soft tissue abnormality.

Opinion
•     . L4-5 mild posterior disc bulge.

Brief Answer:
Report is showing lumbar spondylitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied this MRI report. This report is showing that the patient is having arthritis of the spine. It is also called lumbar spondylitis. There are sign of degeneration like extra bone formation (osteophytes).

Also there is disc herniation between L4 and L5 vertebra. This disc is causing nerve compression and spinal cord compression. It is more on the right side so patient can have pain more on right leg.

There is a non dangerous tumour also in L1 vertebra which is called hemangioma. There is no treatment needed for this tumour.

For lumbar spondylitis I have following suggestions.
1. back muscle strengthening exercises.
2. belt support for back
3. Tablet Pregabalin and Methylcobal one daily.
4. Avoid lifting heavy weight or forward bending.

I hope these steps will be helpful for you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.

Thanks

Many thanks,

Plain X-ray dorsal spine revealed:-
•     Good alignment of the dorsal spine
•     Tiny Anterior osteophytic lipping of the dorsal vertebrae.
•     Preserved Disc spaces.
•     No abnormal paraspinal soft tissue shadows.

Plain X-ray of both knee joints revealed:-
•     Early Osteoarthritic change of the left knee joint evidence by spiky tibial spine, with tiny osteophytic lipping of the medial femoral condyle.
•     Intact right knee joint.
•     No intra articular radio-opaque loose bodies

Plain X-ray of the right foot revealed:-
•     No bony or articular abnormalities detected.

Brief Answer:
X ray of spine is mimicking MRI spine

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As far as x ray of the spine concern it is showing same findings as MRI. There is sign of spine degeneration. The lipping of bone is sign of spondylitis.
Knee x ray is showing early arthritis. We can expect such changes at this age. I would recommend her hot water fomentation and physiotherapy. Also she should take regular calcium and vitamin D. Voletran ointment is also helpful. She should avoid squatting and sitting cross leg.
Foot x ray is not showing nay abnormality.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Brief Answer:
All these tests are normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,. I have gone through these reports and I think that all these reports are normal. You are not having any thyroid or kidney problem.
I would recommend you to take calcium though as it is needed for bone. Blood level of calcium remains normal at the cost of bone calcium.
Thanks.
