                                            Question : Hi doctor,
I recently had an MRI which indicated a 9.5 x 7.5 mm small hyperintense ovoid area in the tail of pancreas. This is of low signal on T1 and shows bright signal on diffusion. Rest of the pancreas appear normal and there is no duct dilation. On ultrasound screening, the lesion was not visualized. Our doctor suggested to go with either CAT scan or endoscopy in order to accurately determine the exact nature of the ovoid area. I am planning on becoming pregnant in the near future and was worried if CAT scan would have any effect on my ovaries. Can you please suggest me any non invasive techniques to determine the exact nature of the ovoid area. Also, what are the possible root causes for the ovoid area?

                                    Brief Answer:
Exact nature will be diagnosed by histopathological examination only.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, there is a swelling in the tail of the pancreas.Exact nature of the swelling is diagnosed by Histopathological examination like FNAC or Biopsy .You can undergo these FNAC/Biopsy under MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangio Pancreaticography)guidance. There will be no radiation exposure with MRCP.
The swelling could be simple cyst,Tumour.
But,exact diagnosis will be confirmed by FNAC/Biopsy only.Out of these two,Biopsy.is superior .
Hope I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
Regards
