What Does The Following MRI Report When Diagnosed With Sciatica Suggest?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: I diagnosed with sciatica three months a go. Since then I'm on PT & had muscle relaxant, NSAID & prednisone for a month. I after my symptoms subside later it stayed the same. MRI done a week a go & reveals injury. I can barely bend forward. Now my primary Dr. from the clinic referred me to the Hospital to have steroid injection on July 2/15. Is that something I need to get once or for ever? & how effective is that?

Detailed Answer:
Hi!

Welcome to health care magic!

I am Dr. Saddiq Ul Abidin. I have read your problem in detail and will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know about the kind of problems you had been suffering with lately. Having said that, the details which you have shared lately, shows that you have already been through many treatment options, which have unfortunately not shown significant benefits.

Now, since your MRI is suggesting problems with the spine, where sciatic nerves originates, so likelihood is that of its compression under vertebral discs so, since majority of medical options have already been tried so you are now left with surgical options.

For that purpose you need a detailed review with a neuro surgeon who will be able to explain you about the extent of problem after reviewing MRI films and is in good position to determine treatment outcomes of surgical procedure.

But one thing should be kept in mind, that risks of recurrence or failure rates are high bit still majority of patients got benefit in there mobility and social life status, that is why suh surgeries are being performed in the first place.

Hope this has answered your query, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. kindly rate me before closing, and leave your feedback if possible.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ul abidin.
