What Does The Following TIFFA Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Jan 2017
Question: Hi Doctor,

I went for TIFFA Scan yesterday (completed 22 weeks) and got the reports. And the reports say "Placenta position is posterior enroaching the internal OS Grade - 1".

Doctor said that there are chances of bleeding and should get admitted immediately if so. am little worried about this. seems like there is no medicine for getting this adjusted. I did browse through many websites looking for exact answers , precautions etc. but becoming more panic by reading through all of them.

Now, What i need to know is that
1. What is the severity of this problem?
2. Can i go to work regularly? sitting job (software) not much stress as I enjoy my work always.
3. Can i do cooking (normally ends in 30 mins) ?
4. Can i travel or do you see any risk?
5. When should i go for further scan to know if it is in better position?
6. Chances of bleeding? if so, what are the precautions? what is the minimum time for the admission into hospital? based on this , i need to choose nearest hospital and get in contact with them from now Onwards.
7. What are the possible risks involved?

Please find the attached reports and clarify my concerns. And give me suggestions for safe pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
Dont worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..

Dont worry.. it is not a very serious issue.. It is found in 30% of pregnancy.. I will clarify your doubts one by one.
1) placentaposterior encroaching the os means placenta is covering the os and there is a chance of bleeding. So complete bed rest is recommended. It can be done by hospitalitalisation or good care at home.
2)With this report working is not recomended as it increases the strain over the abdomen and can cause bleeding. Take leave for atleast one month.
3)Sitting job at home for half hr is ok.. but it is better to avoid cooking also.
4) You see travelling is not at all recomended.
5)Repeat scan after 6 weeks to see whether placenta has migrated up.. placenta migrates up with growing uterus in most cases.
6)There is chance of bleeding.. So take good bed rest. Avoid travelling, sexual intercourse, exercise or climbing stairs. You can be kept for observation to watch for bleeding for a week in hospital followed by complete bed rest at home for 1 month.
7)Usually if there is no bleeding nothing to worry.. Most of the cases placenta migrates up as uterus grows.. But if it persist to be covering the internal os, then normal delivery cannot be opted. You have to undergo caessarian section at term.
But if bleeding occurs there is a chance of abortion..

So no need to worry.. Eat healthy, take good rest.. that would be sufficient..

Hope I have answered your query. feel free to ask any doubts. good day.
