Question : I have just had results of a blood test. I requested looking for gout as there is a family history so asked about uric acid. Evey thing Ok except have been told I have a low score = 80, for autoimmune disease. I am extremely healthy and do not get sick. the doctor has aid he will test again in a year or two but it is quite serious and can result in chemo therapy in severe cases. do I need to see a specialist? what does this relay mean? Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

There is no such thing as a score for autoimmune disease. If it is available to your doctor, it is not widely used and there is for sure very little scientific backing. No one goes screening for autoimmune diseases without any. Only seek further attention if something comes up. Also, what test did he do to say you had a low score for autoimmune disease? By the way, a low score really means there is no need for further aggressive followup unless otherwise decided.

In all, you are healthy and that's what matters. Autoimmune score is not a valid tool and shouldn't be used to scare you.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
