Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: Hello, I had a brain MRI for new headaches. According the the report, "No evidence of parenchymal hemorrhage, mass lesion or acute infarct." Everything sounds normal on the report except this: Subcentimeter ovoid focus of T1/T2 hyperintenstiy overlying the posterior right calvarium probably represents incidental subgaleal lipoma." What does this mean?

Brief Answer:
Lipoma is benign tumour generally made up of fat cells.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Your MRI brain findings suggests almost normal findings except one small lipoma in right side of brain(posteriorly). It is below soft tissue of scalp and it is an incidental finding. It is not related to your symptoms.
Lipoma is a benign tumour generally made up of fat cells. It generally doesn't require any treatment in asymptomatic cases.
Only few patient may require surgical excision if it is causing pain, infection, size enlargement etc.

Otherwise major findings related to brain are normal.Brain parenchyma is absolutely normal. There is no hemorrhage, mass lesion or infarct.

So,there is no need to be worried about.Lipoma is just an incidental finding.

Thank you for your reply. Do you think it needs further testing--could it be something else, or should I stop worrying?
