What Does The Following Liver Ultrasound Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: I had a liver ultrasound and the result is diffuse hepatic parenchymal disease. I believe that means cirrhosis with no focal masses or evidence of portal hypertension. I want to know if changes in my diet and alcohol consumption will reverse this, like with fatty liver or if it means permanent damage. It said the coarsened echo texture was diffused.

Brief Answer:
some degree of impovement is expected

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
Diffuse parenchimal disease is usually used for cirhossis but some US is operator dependent method and some sonographer may describe just fibrosis or steatosis. Also, there are certain types of cirhossis such as macro or micronodular and certain stages of it.
So evaluation of your liver conditions should be based on us and liver enzymes and bilirubin and coagualtion parameters.EVen Cirrhosis can be partially reversible statealthoughthis is sign of serious liver damage and long and excessive alcohol abuse, but in young people as you, if there is no jaundice, high liver enzymes levels or signs of portal hypertension, then you will definitely benefit from reducing or stopping alcohol and you should do it sunce liver has huge regenerative potential and this may be your last chance to heal your liver.Wish you good health. Thank you, I had very high enzyme levels, in the 200's. I am going to do everything in my power to lower that and I'm sure my doctor will have me do a CT.

Brief Answer:
hi

Detailed Answer:
Yes, CT scan is required and biopsy in some cases, also, you need to check hepatitis viral markers and gastroscopy to evaluate stomach condition. I hope you can reduce drinking since there is no other option for preventing liver failure in future.
