Question : Yes please, I just had an MRI of my neck because I have been having a lot of pain, crunching noises and pins and needles in my thumb and index finger. My MRI says this: right central protrusion bony ridge an retrolishesis with central and foranimal stenosis with mild cord flattening. C5 nerve root compromise greater on right. This is of C4C5. I have had a C5C6 fusion done in 2010.

Brief Answer:
MRI findings don't correspond to clinical signs.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Thumb and index finger involvement means that the C6 nerve root is compressed/damaged.

MRI findings don't correspond with clinical signs, since there is nothing said about the C6 nerve root.

In my opinion, a nerve conduction study and EMG is necessary to understand better your condition and to evaluate/exclude any compression of nerve(s) outside spinal cord (tunnel syndromes).

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

Brief Answer:
C5 nerve root may explain shoulder symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Pain on shoulders down your arms ( if located at upper part of arms ) could be explained by C5 nerve root being pinched.

Certain arm positions may worsen the symptoms.

Again, a nerve conduction study should give valuable information about the diagnosis.

Hope I helped you.
