What Does The Following Prostate Biopsy Report Indicate?
Question: I had a prostate biopsy where I passed out from the pain. As soon as the equipment was inserted and the needle struck I shouted out in pain and moved, I said it hurt and the doctor said "Be still, don't move" I bit into the pillow and started counting each needle strike, I remember counting 5 and then the next thing I know there are paramedics in the room asking me my name and date of birth and who the president is, I was transported to the Emergency room from the doctors office via ambulance. my question is: who is responsible for these bills? I would assume the doctor should have stopped and made sure then numbing agent worked or re administered it or rescheduled the appointment to knock me out...the result of his decision to proceed cost me a lot of money. I was told the doctor had me sent to emergency room to cover his a__...what gives?

I read your question and i understand your concern. I am sorry that you have to suffer from the pain via procedure. Ideally your doctor should have listened to your pain and must have anesthetized adequately or even sedated you so thatyou could have felt less pain. Usually periprostatic block is performed by placing a needle into the notch between the prostate and the seminal vesicle laterally. This is identified ultrasonographically as a white (hyperechoic) pyramidal area that the authors call the Mount XXXXXXX sign (because of its resemblance to a snowy mountain peak). Fat in this location makes the area easy to visualize on Transrectal ultrasound. I believe your doctor inadequately anesthetized you for which you had to feel the pain.
As far as bills and emergency room shift is concerned, that i can not comment on as i have no complete history of the procedure and periprocedural precautions. Paramedics asking questions like you mentioned indicate you were anesthetized and emergency room was to keep you till you recover. Any how, consult with your urologist and let them help you out and sort out if there is any possibility of reducing bills cost and provide you more insight with the needs of sending you to ER after procedure.
