Posted on Wed, 30 Sep 2015
Question: hi I had a urine test and the erythrocytes was 69, is that bad. Also there was a trace of blood. What could this mean. I have also had a ct scan which showed duplex collecting system, Prominence of the upper pole calyx in the left kidney and a cyst in the lower pole of the left kidney. Is there anything to worry about.

Brief Answer:
If CECT and urine culture are normal, don't worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i must ask you how many days after last menses, was urine tested.
Blood up to a week after periods is normal. Repeat urine routine after a week.
In a CECT scan, all details of the kidney, tubes draining to bladder, and the bladder , are very clearly seen. (CECT is a contrast enhanced CT. ).
In a plain scan, it won't be seen clearly.
If a CECT has been done, then you don't need to worry.
Urine culture should also be tested.
Also, you don't have to do an ultrasound scan either.
Kindly note that, a duplex system is a normal variation seen in many people.
Neither are prominence of calyx or a simple cyst, of any significance.
Check if you had a CECT and reply.
Drink 8-10 glasses fluids daily.

Brief Answer:
repeat urine routine test to check for blood.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
As you didn't have a proper scanning, what you can do now is, check your urine to see, if the report shows blood.
If it does, then go ahead and get the ultrasound scan.
Wish you well.
