What Does The Liver Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jan 2015
Question: I had a recent liver blood test. My AST (SGOT) results was 24 and my ALT (SGPT) level was 36. Both numbers are within the normal interval reference range. My understanding is the ALT (SGPT) level is normally equal to or lower than the AST (SGOT) results. Should I be concerned with the overall ratio of the 2 results?

Brief Answer:
No concern

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You are wondering whether the AST/ALT ratio is normal. Yes in your case since your overall ALT and AST are normal levels the ratio has no significance. You can be reassured you are normal and have no reason to worry.

Of bigger concern is you elevated blood glucose level. Since this is a fasting blood work the elevation indicates you have diabetes. I recommend that you start a diabetes diet with low fat and low sugar of maximum of 1800 calories per day. Also start a regular exercise program and loss weight if over weight. You should also see a medical provider to help further manage and monitor your diabetes.

I hope this has answered your question. Please contact HCM again with your health care questions or concerns
