Brief Answer:
possible allergies

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You woke this morning with swelling under your eye. This has many causes and more than likely it would be from allergies. The weather has been changing and the air has had lots of pollutants. Allergies can then cause redness of the eyes and a fluid like sack just below the eye from the fluid and edema of the allergy.

The other possibility is hypothyroidism. This is when your bodies metabolism is low and extra fluid collects under the eyes.

I recommend that you first try allergy medications or even allergy eye drops.
Also cold wash cloth the reduce the swelling. If these measures don't work the see your medical provider for possible thyroid check.

If this is from an allergy or thyroid will the fluid sack diminish on its own? I do take a thyroid pill for years. I have had this for 2 years. How do I get rid of the fluid?

Brief Answer:
Periorbital edema

Detailed Answer:
The fluid around your eyes is called periorbital edema. If you have had this for greater than 3 months then the likelihood of it resolving is low. The first thing I would recommend is to have your thyroid tests checked and adjusted if needed. In all likelihood the edema will need to be surgically removed by a plastic surgeon. .I wish there was a better answer for you.
