What Does The X-ray Report Of My Chest Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: I saw my doctor on Wednesday because I've had several episodes over the past two months of suddenly feeling as if I were about to faint while also feeling as if someone were choking me and cutting off my windpipe.

My doctor ordered several exrays of my chest and they showed " a moderate elevation of the right hemidiaphragm.

My blood work showed Ast/sgot reading of 38. I know this is not an extraordinarily high amount, but could also have something to do with the hemidiagphragm readings.

Brief Answer:
List of most likely causes provided sir

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. An elevation of the right hemidiaphragm is indeed a sign of an abnormality and is associated with shortness of breath especially on exertion.

The causes for the same could be any of the following:

+Ascites (fluid accumulated in the abdominal cavity)
+Weakness or paralysis of the muscles of the diaphragm
+Liver abnormality causing pressure (pushing) the diaphragm
+Herniation of the diaphragmatic muscle(s)

In my opinion, your SGOT/AST is still within its normal range and would not point towards an abnormality of your liver. I would still recommend an ultrasound of your abdomen and pelvis to look into the cause with a little more detail.

The above list should help you and your doctor narrow down to the cause in your case. But please, do not hesitate to keep in touch with me or write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
