Posted on Mon, 14 Jul 2014
Question: I just had a CT scan because ultrasound showed abnormal findings of the pancreas, the doctor said this was thickening of the wall of the pancreas. I have had loose bowels 3-5 times daily for about a year now. there is also great urgency when I have to go.
Could the stool systems be associated with the pancreas findings?

Brief Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM

Detailed Answer:
Your findings indicate inflammation of pancreas called pancreatitis which could be acute or chronic. Pancreas has role in digestion so it could be reason of your symptoms, but it is hard to say for sure. YOu should do MRCP to evaluate pancreatic ducts. Also, you need to measure amylase or lipase levels. YOu should follow pancreatic diet and see will symptoms improve. You need to avoid alcohol completely. Other possible causes are enterocolitis, inflammatory bowel diseases or IBS and this should be ruled out too. WIsh you good health. Feel free to ask. Regards
