Question : My ANA w/reflex came back positive for antinuclear antibodies, IFA. My FANA Staining Pattern details are:
Homogeneous Pattern 1:320
Homogeneous DNA (ds, ss), SLE - High titers
Nucleosomes
Histones Drug-induced SLE
I have joint and muscle aches, some edema, fatigue, and insomnia.
I'm curious if the presence of histone antibodies (not sure if that is correct terminology) means this would be more likely drug-induced SLE, rather than SLE. I have a follow up appt. next week, but am anxious.

Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
hello,
your ANA is strongly positive, and the ENA is also positive.
as i can understand your ds DNA is positive which is quite specific for SLE.
drug induced SLE can have anti histone antibodies but may not always be so.
so bottom line is that your tests are positive for sle and your symptoms need to be seen in light of these along with a thorough physical examination.
you may require medication like hydroxy chloroquine for the same.
so even if this is sle it does not seem to be severe.
do you have a history of some drug causing sle.
hope i have been helpful
regards

Thank you. I have been on bupropion for about 3 months. The symptoms flared once in November, once in December, and now in January.

Detailed Answer:
hi,
probably similar medication needs to be titrated to the pains.
ofcourse the rheumatologist needs to examine you to see that we are not missing any signs of lupus.
