What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?

Question: I had a CT Scan done when I went to the ER for a bad fall and the following appears on the CT scan result: "stable hepatic nodularity and splenomegaly raising the possibility of cirrhosis." What does this mean?

I had alocholic hipatitis (sp?) back in late 2012 but recently had a sonogram done my GI/Hepatologist said I had some damage to the liver but not cirrhosis. I do not drink any more.

Brief Answer:
This is possible given the notion of alcoholic hepatitis in the past!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this finding and all the inconveniences this has caused you. I have reviewed the information fully and the best step will be to followup with a comprehensive medical evaluation of the liver and its function.

Truth be told that cirrhosis is a complication of hepatitis. With you having been diagnosed of alcoholic hepatitis, this could have vey much been the longterm outcome of what was diagnosed several years back. Cirrhosis would not have been identified then but would have been monitored for in the future.

For now, this is only a suspicion and needs confirmation. Talk you your GI/Hepatologist and he followup with blood tests to tell whether this is an established fact or not.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
