Question: Hi my dad had CT scan that showed mild involutional change. And periventricular deep white matter consistent with chronic ishsamic change. The doctor mentioned Alzheimer's and explained it as brain failure. Why?? Surely there is no evidence to suggest Alzheimer's.

Brief Answer:
Probably changes due to high blood pressure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Alzhaimer's diagnosis is achieved by clinical and mental status examination findings in correlation with imaging studies findings.

Alzhaimer's disease affects memory, thinking and reasoning, performing tasks, and changes in behavior, personality.

Those CT scan findings, in my opinion, are most likely to be related to high blood pressure.

Blood pressure is necessary to be controlled in order to stop progression.

If in doubt about Alzhaimer's, Neurologist's evaluation and neuropsychological tests are necessary to confirm or exclude it.

Yes, it is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Heart conditions such high blood pressure, heart failure etc. may cause brain involutional changes due to impaired blood supply, so, heart attack and its consequences may affect brain too.

Hope I helped you.
