What Does This CT Scan Report Indicate?

Question: I just sent this question but i don't think it went through. here it is again. I received my abodominal CT scan report today. It say that the pancreas, liver, kidneys and heart are fine. It says for the spleen: There is a punctate calcific density in the superior aspect of the spleen. consistent with a calcified granuloma. There are small subtle ovoid hypodense structures in the mid and inferior aspects of the spleen with the largest one measures 6mm. These are small subtle nonspecific hypodense lesions in the spleen. They may represent hemangiomas; however cannot exclude other mass lesions. The spleen is otherwise unremarkable. Also it shows a large hiatal hernia. How concerned should I be about this and how could I have gotten these

Brief Answer:
Needs work up and management

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Splenic calcifications can occur in many causes. It could be granulomas as your doctor said but again cause of granuloma could be many like infections, autoimmune etc. Hemangioma is also a differential as well. Apart from it infections like hydatid cysts, tuberculosis, histoplasmosis, brucellosis, cat scratch disease, pneumocystis pneumonia , toxoplasmosis etc. Hemangioma, lymphangiomas, sickle cell sequestrations, splenic artery calcified aneurysms , anthracosilicosis etc are other differentials.

It needs further work up and management. I am sure its nothing to worry about. Just needs a little work up to find out the possible cause. What ever it is it is localised to spleen and worst case scenario may be taken out any time with spleen surgery. Lets hope for the best. As far as hiatal hernia is concerned that is also very common complaint and depends on severity. If it causes too much discomfort then get evaluated for hiatal hernia repair, otherwise, supportive care and diet lifestyle modifications will help.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan

just one more quick question. You don't seem concerned by the ovoid hypodense structures? Also I run to manage stress can I still do that?

Brief Answer:
No worries, keep running and stay in touch with your doctor

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

I am not concerned and would like you to not to be concerned too as in my experience so far and according to me, hypodense structures in spleen are mostly benign and easily manageable as per the cause of it. Most of these lesions don't even need any further work up once diagnosis is suspected or confirmed. Yes run as much as you can. Exercise is very good for your health and these hypodense lesions should not stop you from leaving a good habit.

I hope it helps.

Khan
