What Does This MRI Report For Pelvic Pain Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jul 2016
Question: I have been having pelvic pain over the last 6 months. Yesterday I had an MRI (With and without contrast). I would like a radiologist to review and let me know if there are any cancerous tumors/masses. That is my priority. Secondly, if they see anything that may explain the pain that would be great.

I have used other online services that allow you to upload the full report without saving individual images. Do you provide this capability and how would I access to upload the files for a full view?

I received the MR findings this morning. Please review and give your thoughts on his findings for the mid rectum thickening. I am including images cited in the report.

When you look at the images, is it concerning (e.g. likely cancer)? I do have a colonoscopy planned but waiting for those results be awhile.
I also attached the pelvic MRI from this week and from 11/15. I had a colonoscopy back in Nov 2013 that came back normal too.

Brief Answer:
Uniform mid rectal thickening doesn't appear cancerous.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

As we discussed earlier, findings are almost normal except few things.
Tarlov's cysts are an incidental finding and usually it is not concerning.

There is mild uniform mid rectal thickening. It doesn't appear cancerous but it need clinical correlation and colonoscopy. Thickening may be due to infection, contraction etc.It is difficult to comment more on this finding because colonoscopy and biopsy is the ideal investigation in such findings.

We should wait for colonoscopy reports.

Get well soon.

Last question. I can't make heads or tail of these images. Is it possible to highlight with an arrow or something so that I know the area that you are both referring?

I really appreciate the feedback and will just be patient until the colonoscopy is completed in a week.

Annotation is not possible without software.Any way,I try to explain.

In MRI images, rectum is seen in posterior(behind part,at the level where 9 cm is written in images as calibration mark).
Anterior to it there is uterus and in front to it ,urinary bladder is situated.

Okay, this helps. To confirm, is it what looks like a fish hook looking line that goes aeound most of what appears to be area you are referring (for lack of a better comparison) or the straight line right before the anus indention. Sorry ot is hard to explain.

i thought MRIs with contrast were excellent at identifying masses/cancerous tumors? That easnt noted so why would there be a concern of cancer?

Lastly, the radiologist should have moted enlarged or suspicious lymph nodes. Is that correct?

Thank you for all your time. Once i get clear answers to the above, i promise to close out the inquiry.

Brief Answer:
Lymph nodes are not always involved in early cancer.

Yes,it is in posterior part as a rounded structure.
MRI must have detected any mass/tumour etc.It is good that there is no such finding.
Lymph nodes are not always involved in early cancer. It depend upon type and stage of cancer.
