Question : Have possible Hemiplegic Migraines, diagnosed by Primary 4 years ago. MRI was unremarkable back in 2013, had braces then so artifact interfered. Just looked at those scans for the first time and these images concerned me. Is this something I should point out at my first Neurology appointment this week? I've been having increasing symptoms that go beyond migraine.
Brief Answer:
MRI images are normal.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,
MRI images are normal.
Coronal image(indicated by red arrow)shows normal part of cerebellar hemisphere, these are normal cerebellar folia whereas second axial image(red round annotation) is part of mid brain.
These are normal structures of our brain.
Migraine may be without any organic cause and it may need proper evaluation.
You have rightly taken appointment with a neurologist.
Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.

In the image with the circle, I wasn't point out the structure of the brain, but instead the black line "inside" that correlates with the image with the arrow. I am aware of the structures of the brain. I am a medical professional myself. I talked with a Neurologist that I know at work who mentioned Vertebral Artery Compression of the Medulla, an to have a MRA done to rule out Vascular problems. What are your thoughts on this? Also the arrow was pointing to the big "black slash" going into and distorting it. It wasn't pointing to the folds.
Brief Answer:
Black structure inside the vertebral artery is normal signal void.

Hello,
Thanks for writing to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,
Black structure inside the vertebral artery is normal signal void,it is due to flowing blood.
Flowing blood in artery gives no signal thus causes signal void. This is normal.
Vascular compression can't be commented on this image.Definitely you may need MR angiography.
