Question: I had a piece of my tongue with canser removed and my lymph node. They sent the lymph node for bi-opsy. It came backgood with no sign of canser. The doc saidI it was possible that canser could come back and stay at my nerve endings. So they want to give me raditation treatment.I really dont want to. What do you think? I hear the radiation treatment has bad side effects. What are my chances of getting canser again?

Brief Answer:
It depends on many factors.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
From your question I conclude that you have carcinoma of tongue and biopsy shows negative lymphnode.

Post operative radiotherapy decision depends on many factors.

Your Tumour stage (T3, T4 need radiotherapy), Resection margins( if positive or less then 5 mm distance need radiotherapy), Lymph-vascular invasion, peri neural invasion, lymphnode invasion etc.

So whether radiotherapy should be given or depends on above factors. If any of above factor is there then it need radiotherapy.

Chances of recurrence is also depends on above factor so please send me your full biopsy report so that I can help you further in your treatment decision.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
