Question: On 24.10.15 my fbc showed hb of 11.1g/dl and platelet count of 410 000/UL. I'm diabetic and currently had kidney infection. Today my hb is 10.2 and platelets have increased to 634 000/UL. What could be the cause and what dietary measures can I put in place

Brief Answer:
Both Hb level suggest anemia, high platelets suggest infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Platelets increase in number due to any infectious focus in body.
As you have mentioned that you recently suffered from kidney infection, the infection may be the cause of elevated platelet count.
The hemoglobin levels of 11.1 and 10.2 gm% are low and hence suggest anemia.
A variation of 10% can occur when same blood sample is run on two separate occasions.
Thus, the variation is acceptable and suggest anemia.
A peripheral blood smear examination needs to be done to know the type of anemia.

Brief Answer:
P/S suggestive of iron deficiency, serum iron and ferritin level required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Slight hypochromia in normocytic red blood cells suggest iron deficiency.
I suggest you to get serum iron and ferritin levels.
If iron is found to be low, iron supplements will be required to replete the serum iron and ferritin.
White blood cells are within normal range.

Thanks and take care
