Question : hi. I had blood tests taken. my ALT was 54 and AST is 33. I don't drink at all. I just got off antibiotics for ear infection. I do take a few other prescription drugs. is this reading a concern? thanks

                                    Brief Answer:
would be in the normal range
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Lab normal value ranges can vary slightly from one lab to the next.
In general AST range is approximately 8 to 40 and ALT range is from 7 to 56 (some labs may go to 60)
This means that your AST value of 33 and the ALT of 54 would be in the normal range.
They are normal results according to these ranges.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

That's good to hear. My Dr said it was on the higher level and to stay away from fatty foods. I did not know every lab has different levels. thanks

                                    Brief Answer:
reducing fatty diet is reference to non alcoholic fatty liver disease
Detailed Answer:
HI
They may be above the range from your lab or in the upper level.
Fatty food reference would be referring to NON alcoholic fatty liver disease which is fat build up in the liver caused by diet/ decreased activity. It is very common
The fat build can then cause inflammation and damage to the liver if it continues.
Even though your results are in normal range, a healthy lifestyle would prevent this from occurring

I just looked at my lab results from last year. ALT was 22 and AST was 20. I guess something caused it to go up. would a liver function blood test help it not

HI
AST and ALT are liver function tests, so you had them done already.
Alkaline phosphatase , GGT, bilirubin are also liver function tests but are not as commonly done unless indicated.

you mentioned decreased activities. I had hip replacement so I was laid up for awhile. so for now, there is no real concern right? Just eat a little healthier. I really don't need any tests for now? thanks sooo much

                                    Brief Answer:
no further tests right now
Detailed Answer:
HI
yes, for now no real concern, they are within normal range so no further tests needed right now
Be as active as you are able to be and maintain a healthy diet. Watch carbs as well because they have found that high unhealthy carb diet (there are some good ones) actually causes fat build up in the liver and muscles
the carbs are converted to fat and stored in the body
You can let me know if there is anything else
