Question : Hi I am a 30 year smoker age 44 just got blood test back red blood count 5.23, hemoglobin 16.3, Hematocrit 48.8. What is my Prognosis and will I need to do bloodletting
Brief Answer:
your hematocrit is a little higher than usual
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
your hematocrit is a little higher than usual. Smokers tend to have higher values due to lower oxygen usage. This is not an emergency though and you shouldn't worry too much. Make sure that you get clinical examination by your doctor and a repeat measurement after a couple of months. If the clinical examination is normal and the repeat measurement provides similar results then this is probably due to genes and smoking... No need for bloodletting...
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
