Question: Does this look like a lupus rash on my cheeks & nose. My ANA was negative. Platelets were 420, wbc, 11.9, c-reactive protein was 10. Everything else was in normal limits.

Brief Answer:
Rash over the face

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Well, it doesnt look like a lupus rash as it is involving your nasolabial folds as well...If you could throw some more light on the rash like:

1. Duration
2. Sudden onset or slow?
3. Any itching
4. Does it get worse in the sun?
5. Any new medications you tried recently??

The other possibility are Acne Rosacea and DErmatomyositis... So if you could check whether your CPK has been done, it would be helpful....

Do let me know these queries and would guide you further

Ive had this for 5 years & have had my ANA checked for lupus twice with it being negative. I am sun sensitive a bit as if i get a small sunnurn it makes me feel ill. It does not itch for the most part. Some days it looks better than others.

Acne roascae

Detailed Answer:
good evening

Oh well since you have had it for 5 years and it hasn't progressed any further with No other symptoms it probably is Acne rosacea. Any other rash of lupus or dermatomyositis for that matter would have progressed and caused new symptoms. So you need not worry. Just keep a watch on any new rashes or joint swellings or oral ulcers...Incase it changes which is less likely since your ANA has been negative so far.

My final diagnosis is acne rosacea. You can consult a dermatologist for some topical creams which will be helpful.

I have no joint swelling but i do have achiness, fatigue, mouth ulcers occasionally but my ANA Has always been negative. If my ana is a negative is that a pretty good chance this is not lupus? Also my crp was high?.. does that matter at all or could that be from anything

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Well, Vague joint pains can be due to many reasons, most commonly it is vitamin D defeciency. If it was with lupus you would have experienced swelling by now.

But yes , ANA negative and the rashes going on for 5 years rules out lupus. Moreoever no other symptoms you have which fit in with it and all your bloods have been normal so far. So it all goes against it..

CRP can be high due to many reason. Firstly we need to see how high it is, if it is marginal or like very high. You may have had a recent viral infection or so when it was tested. Moreoever, CRP is always normal in lupus..

So Dont worry about Lupus as such...It doesnt fit in with your diagnosis

Crp level

Detailed Answer:
good evening.

Well 10 is acceptable one as we use 10 as the cut off in rheumatological problems. So we can ignore that value in your case
