Question: My WBC is 10.8 and platelets 420.

I have had elevated WBC for several years. Highest was 17. It had gone from 17 to 14. Then was 11.2 last month and 10.8 this week. Platelets were 440 last month and 420 last week. Being referred to Hemotolgy. I am panicking. Should I be worried? I knew a referral was possible as a "just in case" but it had caused a lot of anxiety.

Brief Answer:
Hello dear. I think there is nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. I understand your concern. A normal platelet count varies from 150 to 450 thousand and it can vary in same person from time to time. This should not be a concern. A normal wbc is less than 11000 and you had slightly higher counts which can be explained in a female by menstruation, or pregnancy or lactation or sometimes during any sort of stress or anxiety. In the absence of any other symptoms and because your counts are now less than 11000, i dont see any reason to panic. A peripheral smear examination of blood will lay rest to rest of anxiety.
Thanks and regards

I was told today that i have elevated Lymphocytes. I was told several years ago they number was 3.7 and now it is at 4.2.

All other differentials were normal. I am a pack a day smoker.

Any thoughts? Still very anxious.
