Posted on Fri, 27 Jun 2014
Question: Had blood work done by an environmental dr. Who suspected mold exposure. The results concern me that something else is brewing. Lymphocyte % is 18.2, low end of normal range is 20. CD8 t cell suppressor/cytotoxic is 17.2 low end of range is 19. CD 3 abs is 797, low end of this range is 822. CD8 abs is 208, low end of range is 255. Absolute lymphocyte count is 1.2, low end of range is 1.2 so that was considered normal.

Brief Answer:
Mild decrease in CD count is due to infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX
Thanks for writing to HCM

I have gone through your query in detail.
You are absolutely fine. CD8 and CD3 count are mild decreased from their normal limits.
These T cells play central role in cell-mediated immunity and indicates immunological status of the person.

CD counts are important in characterizing and monitoring immunodeficiency such as HIV,immunosuppression and autoimmune diseases.

CD8 and CD3 values are also altered in viral infection, bacterial infections, parasitic infections, sepsis etc.
Your values are mildly decreased and it is due to infection from which you are suffering. It is not alarming at all and it will be alright after resolution of infection.

Get well soon.
Hope I have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.

Hello XXXXXX
Thanks for writing back

You don't worry at all.Findings are only mildly decreased and it is not the reason for concern even if you don't have signs of infection.
You mentioned that your doctor has doubt about mold exposure, so there should be some signs of infection(which you may not be aware).Any way, your findings are almost normal.
