Posted on Mon, 11 Jul 2016
Question: I want to know what it means on a blood test that detected the following in blood.
Alprazolam. 86.0 +_ 6.1 ng/ml
Hydrocodone
Hydromorphone
Above is exactly how it shows on report. Know about the Alprazolam and hydrocodone. Have no idea about hydromorphone or what it is. Was in hospital ER in morning and had potassium administered. Is the 86.0. A low amount, high amount.???

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Hydromorphone is Dilaudid, an opioid painkiller medication that is usually administered intravenously in a hospital setting. This test shows that you had it in your system. The 86.0 is an average amount that simply indicates you were taking alprazolam, more commonly known as Xanax, a benzodiazepine anti-anxiety medication.

Did you look at the actual report? I was wondering since there is nothing next to the hydrocodone and hydromorphone if that means it showed up but not at an amount of concern or I guess maybe negligible, a very small amount?

Detailed Answer:
Yes, I looked at the report. The report indicates a positive result for alprazolam (with a level), hydrocodone, and hydromorphone. The latter two are usually not reported by level, simply by the presence or absence of metabolites in the blood. It does not say how much, high or low. All we know is you were positive for all three drugs, with a moderate level of alprazolam.
