Brief Answer:
You might require tests based on your symptoms and clinical examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The thymus is an organ which is active in children and young people. It generates white blood cells and helps maintain immunity. As we grow up, the thymus decreases in size and its function becomes less important. Some people might have a persisting thymus in the chest region.

2 There are situations when the thymus shows slight growth and is called thymic hyperplasia. This is of 2 types, true hyperplasia and lymphoid hyperplasia. True hyperplaisa can occur due to stress and in people who have been treated for cancer. Lymphoid hyperplasia can occur in auto immune disorders like myasthenia gravis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), Graves disease, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma.

3. Therefore if you have any symptoms which can be from any stressful condition or autoimmune disorders then other specific tests might be required.

4. The 4 mm ill defined ground glass opacity in lung is probably from an earlier condition of lung infection or inflammation and is not a serious problem.

5. Please discuss your symptoms in detail with your doctor and that will help your doctor to suggest any tests based on your thymic hyperplasia which is seen.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
