Brief Answer:
is it reported by the radiologist?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
A 1 cm dense shadow at cardiac apex is quite unusual to be picked up as the heart is constantly in motion and hence sometime the shadow can vary depending upon the phase in which heart was during taking x ray.
So is this report done by the radiologist or the doctor or have you yourself made the observation?
If you do not have any symptoms pertaining to cardiovascular or lung related this finding could be not conclusive.
Usually opaque shadow if present near cardiac apex would be due to some lesion arising from lungs. But it should be sure that x ray has picked up a distinct diffrent shadow from heart and is not mixed up.
Usually to clear the confusion, HRCT thoraxis advised as it will clearly and distinctly show the lesion as to where it is and what is the nature.
Hence I would like to advice you to consult your doctor and if decided, getting a HRCT thorax will be useful and will give proper information.
I hope I have answered your query well.
If you have any questions kindly ask me back.
Thank you

Dr. Reported. I have shortness of breath and racing heart while idle sometimes. Dr. Advised further tests. I.e., CT, oblique images. Appt. May23 with Cardio /Pulmo. Just wanted some possibilities I may be looking at.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for following up with me.
It is very difficult to say just on this small finding about the reason for your problem.
There is quite a big time period until your next appt, almost a month.
For breathing difficulty and palpitations ( feeling of racing heart) reason could be still cardiac or pulmonary. It is very difficult to pin point on any of the system involvement. As even I mentioned in my previous reply,CT thorax will be required to see where does the dense shadow is arising from.
In x ray we see 2d image but the depth is not understood hence the opacity can be anywhere from lungs to heart or even chest wall.
If at all you could describe in detail your symptoms alongwith how it began and how it progressed, I could roughly diagnose the problem.
Also it will be helpful if you could upolad the x ray image and the report too for me to see.
I will get back to you with detailed answer after that.
Awaiting your answers.
Thank you
