What Does This Echocardiogram Report Indicate?

Question : I'm a 57 yr old female...I'm overweight but working on that......bp is a bit high. I had an echocardiogram done 6 months ago. No one called me back so I thought all was well. Last night I found out I have mild left atrium dialation and abnormal ventrical relaxation concurrent with grade 1 diastolic dysfunction. No one ever called me for a follow up. I have as call into the cardiologist but haven't heard back yet. Do I need to be as panicked as I feel?

I read your query and understood your concerns.

You shouldn't be panicked about your cardiac echo. Your findings are very common in patient with hypertension and you shouldn't worry about them. People with mild atrium dilatation and diastolic dysfunction should stabilize their BP in order to reduce future (long term) risk.

The only recommendation in your case are as follows:
- Stabilize your BP with healthy diet & lifestyle and medical therapy
- Increase physical activity to stabilize your weigh and BP
- Repeat cardiologist visit and cardiac ECHO once a year
