Question: My echocardiogram states that the Mitral Valve has degenerative calcification of MV, MAC, and Trace MR. Would you interpret this for me please.

Brief Answer:
probably nothing important...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

degenerative calcification means calcium deposit caused by aging (a normal process). MV means mitral valve. MAC means mitral annular calcification and MR means mitral regurgitation. MAC may be important or not. It depends on the hemodynamic effects it causes. If the cardiologist has not mentioned any untoward effects then perhaps it's only a finding that had to be noted because it was there but has no clinical significance. Trace MR is another clue that the findings are not very important. It means that there is some regurgitation but it's negligible. "Trace MR" is a common finding in many individuals without any symptom of heart disease.

So it seems that your echo is OK. You should only check that the MAC is not causing serious hemodynamic changes (you haven't mentioned such a finding though).

I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
