What Does This Echocardiogram Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Oct 2016
Question: Since last fall, 2015, my oxygen and blood pressure has been decreasing. I was recently diagnosed with RA, but the breathing issues seemed to be separate. I recently was seen by a lung doctor and he ordered an echocardiogram as he heard a "murmur" in my heart. It showed a "tricuspid valve with mild regurgitation". Nothing to worry about as my internist said the other day. So here is my question...what is causing my oxygen count to be 91 in her office during waking hours, upright. My oxygen count at night is 85-88. My blood pressure has dropped from a norm of 128/80 to 116/65 and my MCV is a 98.4 up from a norm of 93.2 just days before I was hit by a car as a pedestrian on July 30,2015. What could cause all these symptoms if the echo is only showing "mild regurgitation"? Thank you, XXXXXXX XXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms are not related to mild tricuspid valve regurgitation as it has not any clinical significance.

A lung disorder or sleep apnea could be the cause of all this clinical scenario.

Besides, as you have a high MCV vitamin B12 deficiency should be excluded too.

I recommend performing further tests to investigate for the possible cause of your symptoms:

- a chest X ray study
- respiratory function tests
- a blood gas analysis
- a polysomnography to investigate for possible sleep apnea
- vitamin B12 plasma levels.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask me again, whenever you need!

Kind regards,
