Question: I did an LFT test today and got the following result. Bilirubin (T) = 1.5mg/dl,
Bilirubin Direct = 0.4mg/dl
SGOT 29U/L
SGPT 68 U/L

Why is the SGPT so high when the normal range is upto 41U/L?

Brief Answer:
Need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to HCM forum.
Thanks for posting to us.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

Your bilirubin ( indirect fraction) and SGPT is only marginally elevated. Pathological conditions like hepatitis will raise SGOT and SGPTAND to 100s to 1000s.
As you have no symptoms related to liver dysfunction (fever, jaundice, nausea, anorexia, abdominal pain etc), this need not be worried. Many common conditions like alcohol intake, recent viral fever, drug intake etc can cause this.
Just do a repeat test after 2-3 weeks. Only if the abnormality persist, we need further evaluation.

Hope this will answer your query.
Be free to ask if you need further clarification.
Wishing you good health.
Thank you.

Thanks Doctor. Yeah. I did a similar test 2.5 yearsbackand found the same result. SGPT was high. That time when I consulted a Physician,he told its Gilberts Syndrome. I avoided non-veg for an year after that and still it was the same only.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
It will not come down;but nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thanks for the information.

There is nothing to worry in this.
XXXXXXX syndrome causes asymptomatic elevation of unconjugated bilirubin for lifelong. This need not be considered as a liver disease, and need no treatment.
There can be mild increase in levels during fasting, fever etc.

Just be confident.
Take care.
Thank you.
